These reserved ranges, along with other IP ranges that haven’t yet been allocated and therefore also shouldn’t appear on the public. Network Address ( network ID) is a portion of the TCP/IP address that is used to identify individuals or devices on a network such as a local area network or the Internet.Ī broadcast address is a logical address at which all devices connected to a multiple-access communications network are enabled to receive datagrams. Some IP addresses and IP ranges are reserved for special use, such as for local or private networks, and should not appear on the public internet. It means mask with 31 bits, network with 2 addresses, can not be used. The only exception is a network with a 32-bit mask (network with only one address), which is used for defining the node's local IP address in the routing table. So if there are 4 addresses in the network, there can be 2 nodes defined. These addresses are not available for node addressing. In every network, there are two addresses used for network and broadcast addressing. How someone can use the Network and Broadcast addresses for their computers in Linux OS and Why Not in Windows OS.
